About This Service

In a new venture for 2006, the Culture and Leisure department is pleased to offer an online print order facility, in association with Fitzgeralds Photographic Services. We see this as an essential part of our mission to make our collections widely accessible to all - just as much a reason for this development as the income generation opportunity it offers.

We will initially be offering a small selection of paintings and historic local photographs, with the intention of steadily expanding the range over time. Our eventual intention is to offer as wide a selection from our art and photograph collection as possible, though limits on staff time and the need to clear copyright in the case of more recent works, will inevitably mean measured development rather than rapid progress.

The museum collections are a resource which is being preserved for the use and enjoyment of both present and future generations. Our images have frequently been reproduced in local commercial publications and this will undoubtedly continue as a service - for which we have a standard set of charges. Until now, however, the administrative and production overheads have largely made on-demand print generation too expensive an option for the private individual. We hope this new facility will change that position, with modern digital technology allowing more people to enjoy our images. Our images are derived either from professionally taken medium format transparencies, from recent all-digital photography, or from direct high-resolution scans. They are printed on good quality art paper, using archival quality inks with excellent fade resistance under normal conditions. As with any original photograph or artwork, prolonged exposure of prints to direct sunlight will cause more rapid fading than displaying them in shaded conditions.
