This guide is one of the first fruits of a successful exercise in co-operation by many individuals and organisations: the total excavation of a remarkable Guernsey site, and the new light it has shed on the local and European past.

Acknowledgments: (1st paragraph)

The Guernsey megaliths - and Guernsey prehistory in general - are a microcosm of North European prehistory. On the underside of one of the capstones of Le Déhus is the representation of a figure which can be compared in a general way with the stone figures in the churchyards of Câtel and St Martin. All three are obviously part of the iconography of the ancient religion of pre-Christian Europe. They demand a visit - as, indeed, do all the main  megalithic tombs in the island, and the admirable new museum in Candie Gardens. This authoritative and well-written guide is an excellent starting point for those who want to see the remains of Guernsey's ancient past, and to understand its place in prehistoric Europe.
